International Conferences: representation by Professor Laura Colucci-Gray

Professor Laura Colucci-Gray, Personal Chair in Science and Sustainability Education at the University of Edinburgh, has actively represented our SENSE. project in several prominent academic conferences. These events provided important opportunities to discuss key themes related to STEAM education, aligning closely with our project’s objectives.

Keynote at the Northern European Conference for Science Education (NFSUN 2024), University of Iceland – Reykjavik – 6th June 2024
The Northern European Conference for Science Education (NFSUN 2024), held at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, focused specifically on the timely theme, “Revisioning STEAM education in times of Climate Change.” This event gathered educators, researchers, and policy-makers to explore interdisciplinary and innovative educational approaches aimed at empowering younger generations to address climate change effectively.
This theme directly resonates with the SENSE. project’s mission to enhance STEAM education as a vehicle for addressing global challenges. Our commitment to sustainable education is reinforced by engaging with international discussions about how educational curricula can integrate environmental responsibility and creativity to drive meaningful societal change.


Keynote at the First Conference on Public Engagement and Science Communication, Liverpool John Moores University – 5th July 2024
The First Conference on Public Engagement and Science Communication hosted by Liverpool John Moores University was established to foster improved dialogue between scientists, educators, and the wider public. The primary aim was to explore new methods and innovative approaches for enhancing public understanding and participation in science-related issues.
This conference aligns closely with the SENSE. project’s objectives of promoting inclusivity and wider participation in science through STEAM methodologies. Encouraging effective science communication and public engagement helps us build stronger communities, facilitate public trust, and democratize knowledge, thereby making science accessible and relevant for all.


Paper Presentation at the Scottish Educational Research Association Conference, Dundee University – 25th November 2024
The Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA) Conference, held at Dundee University, provided a robust platform for sharing insights into the latest research on educational practices and policy development. This conference particularly emphasized collaborative approaches in professional development and curriculum-making, crucial topics in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape.
