In January, the SENSE. team at Høgskulen på Vestlandet (HVL) in Bergen, Norway led a conference session with teachers on “Sharpening the senses in a STEAM activity.”
Practicing teachers learned about the SENSE. method and how they can bring it to their classrooms with an exploration of the science, art and feeling of local soils. Exploring local soils with all of the senses, participants made observations, and then made an art project with the soils as ‘paint’, as ‘sculpture’, and more.
This activity encourages those involved to think about how important feeling the world around us, in as many ways as possible, is in all the ways we can interact with our local world, and we can become more aware and more involved in our local soils.
