ODYSSEA’S HISTORY
Odyssea was officially founded in 2016 by Jai Mexis. In its first years of operation, Odyssea executed high-impact projects that were fully responsive to the immediate needs of the time. A typical example is Lovest, a social enterprise aimed at transforming non-recyclable materials, which were by-products of refugee trips to Greek shores, into unique products of value.
Astrolab starting Subchapter
One of Odyssea’s first projects was Astrolab, a digital fabrication lab that provided technology training and open access to high-tech tools to help promote positive social change. The educational aspect of Astrolab gradually evolved into a set of vocational training and entrepreneurship development programmes, responding to society’s growing need for a means of inclusion for vulnerable, excluded groups. The high quality of skills provided by the programmes soon attracted the business world and gave rise to the need to create a new department, the employability office.
The coming of the COVID-19 pandemic found the Odyssea team actively contributing to the national effort to protect the population from the virus. With the assistance of the TIMA Foundation, they manufactured 50,000 protective face shields and donated them to the Greek Ministry of Health, which distributed them to hospitals and clinics throughout the country.
